Busy week of false statements for Trump

As if naming it the “Chinese Virus” isn’t enough, Donald Trump said during a news conference “I wish they could have told us earlier about what was going on inside…. We didn’t know about it until it started coming out publicly.” Trump added that China “was very secretive and that’s unfortunate.” Was China supposed to notify the US after the first person with the symptoms?

But on January 24, Trump praised China and President Xi Jinping for the country’s “efforts and transparency” in dealing with the coronavirus. It seems like Trump is starting the blame game again. Trump knew about the virus on January 8th after a CDC advisory but did not close any borders or travel ban until February.

Trump said he wants the nation “opened up and just raring to go by Easter.” National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Dr. Anthony Fauci instead said they need to look at the data. Some areas are getting hit harder than others. Some epidemiologist experts are saying the peak in the US will be in three weeks,

Trump’s family businesses are included in a category of companies barred from receiving certain kinds of aid from the Treasury Department to ease the economic impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic. The $2 trillion stimulus deal the Senate agreed to will prohibit loans or investments from Treasury programs to be used to benefit businesses controlled by Trump, the vice president, the heads of executive departments and members of Congress, according to a draft of the legislation.

Trump had predicted that the Senate will approve the stimulus deal. I sure hope so as the Republicans control the senate and all they need to do is pass it by one vote. Those who won’t be getting anything will be undocumented immigrants.

When signing the historic coronavirus stimulus bill into law, Trump was surrounded by fellow Republicans and expert members of the coronavirus task force. Who were missing were Democrats. He is so petty.

“We have very good liquids for doing this, sanitizing the masks, and that that’s something they’re starting to do more and more. They’re sanitizing the masks,” Trump said during a White House coronavirus briefing. If it is the N95 mask, US Food and Drug Administration guidelines for the common N95 respirator masks state they “should not be shared or reused.”

Trump tweeted “We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself. At the end of the 15 day period, we will make a decision as to which way we want to go!” [Note: He had the tweet in all capital letters.] No. He didn’t get this from himself but from someone on Fox News. Surprised? Not surprised is others in the administration who agreed with what he said.

Would you believe that Trump believes the “Fake Media” and the Democrats want things to get worse with the coronavirus and the economy so Trump has less chances of winning the November election. Trump wants the virus to be over with and gone. It is hurting the economy which is hurting his chances of winning in November because his primary excuse that he did well in his 4 years is the economy. Conspiracy Nut in Chief.

Trump says he’s trying to push some manufacturers to ramp up production to build ventilators and then goes onto Fox News and says many governors are over estimating how many they need. Of course Trump says the “negative” side on Fox News to please his base.

In a news conference Trump claims that the US army engineers are building mobile hospitals in just a few days. Well if it is portable [think of the TV show M*A*S*H], a mobile hospital should be able to be brought down and moved with very little notice. [“Bug out!”]

Asked how he responds to falsehoods from Trump during press conferences, Fauci said, “I can’t jump in front of the microphone and push him down,” according to an interview. Some people wish he did. This is how the Trump administration is handling things: According to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, a mask that use to cost 85 cents not goes for $7.

Cuomo is suggesting that the administration should nationalize certain areas of the medical equipment. So you know how Trump likes to boast how the US is the best in everything. So he is claiming that the US has the best tests in the world. I’m sure the tests were used in other countries first.

White House officials are actively discussing putting soldiers near the Canadian border in light of U.S. border security concerns related to the novel coronavirus pandemic — raising diplomatic anxiety on both sides of the border. White House is looking at placing 1,000 troops about 25 kilometers from the border and using remote sensors to look out for irregular border-crossers. In the end, the Trump administration backed down under pressure from the Canadian government and those in Congress.

Phoenix-area man is dead and his wife is under critical care after the two took chloroquine phosphate in an apparent attempt to self-medicate for the novel coronavirus. Can you guess where I am going with this? The wife said they learned of chloroquine’s connection to coronavirus during a Trump news conference. It does not appear they took the pharmaceutical version of the drug, but rather an additive commonly used at aquariums to clean fish tanks.

Trump has touted chloroquine as a possible treatment for Covid-19. It is approved by the Food and Drug Administration for treating malaria, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, but the FDA has not approved it to treat the coronavirus.

NBC network’s White House correspondent, Peter Alexander, at a coronavirus briefing, if you didn’t see, asked Trump what he would say to Americans who are frightened amid the coronavirus pandemic. Instead of answering, Trump responded by rejecting the question (“nasty”), attacking Alexander (“terrible”), and assailing NBC News’ parent company Comcast (“Con-Cast”).

No shocker, Fox News’ Brit Hume defended Trump. “Legitimate question my a,… It was the kind of bullsh_t gotcha question which hack WH reporters have been asking for decades.” What news conference was he watching?

The Holland America cruise ship is heading to Florida. Four dead on the ship and many sick. They interviewed on the ship who said they “felt safe taking a cruise because the governor of Florida said it was safe and The President of the United States said they had low risk”.

Trump said it’s “too bad” [sarcastically] that Republican Sen. Mitt Romney is in self-isolation due to exposure to a fellow Senate Republican Rand Paul who tested positive for the coronavirus. Romney is one of the few Republicans that don’t back Trump that much.

A leading super PAC affiliated with Democratic politics unveiled a new ad this week, hitting Trump on his response to the coronavirus crisis. The ad is pretty straightforward: it features direct quotes from the president about the pandemic, as viewers see a chart showing the number of American coronavirus cases steadily climbing.

But Trump’s reelection campaign is threatening legal action against television stations in key battleground states if they continue airing an ad cut by the liberal super PAC Priorities USA alleging that Trump called the coronavirus a “hoax.” Team Trump’s argument is that, in context, when the Republican used the word “hoax” at a campaign rally, he wasn’t explicitly referring to the virus itself.

Trump sent Kim Jong Un a personal letter in which he expressed his willingness to help with “anti-epidemic work” according to a statement from Kim Yo Jong, Kim Jong Un’s younger sister.

Trump he postponed a phone call with the Chinese President Xi so he could appear on Sean Hannity’s show on Fox News. Meanwhile in the interview….

  • When Trump banned travel from China he claimed that “A lot of the [Chinese] people decided to go to Italy instead. They went to Spain instead.” No proof of course.
  • “I had Biden calling me xenophobic. And yet he can’t define the word.” No comment.
  • “But a lot of people are saying this could be a big answer.” Trump claims anti-malarial drugs may work – without any hard facts – of course.
  • “But for the vaccine, you need about a year, at least a year of testing…” Yet he said a couple of months at the beginning of March.
  • “Now, I think that we inherited a broken system from the previous administrations, not just one. And it was very broken.” Blaming previous administrations [usually the Obama administration] for current problems that he has had 3 years to fix.
  • “Gov. (Jay) Inslee, that’s the state of Washington. He was a failed presidential candidate. And you know, he’s always complaining.” What relevance does the fact that the governor of Washington ran unsuccessfully for president have when it comes to how he is handling the coronavirus outbreak in his state?
  • “And you know a lot — a lot of equipment’s being asked for that I don’t think they’ll need but I’m building.” Trump is suggesting that governors are being greedy.
  • “In the case of Rand Paul, a good guy, by the way, he actually has this problem. And I’m sure he’ll be all right.” He’s not so good. Paul spent almost a week around his Senate colleagues while awaiting the results of a coronavirus test.
  • “But I have a feeling that a lot of the numbers that are being said in some areas are just bigger than they’re going to be.” No facts of course.
  • “I don’t believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators. You know, you’re going to major hospitals sometimes, they’ll have two ventilators. And now, all of a sudden, they’re saying, can we order 30,000 ventilators?” Medical experts are saying that infected patients could be on ventilators for weeks. Most of the time, a patient is on just for a few days.
  • “We’re — we’re testing — we’ve tested now more than anybody.” He was comparing against South Korea which has a sixth the population of the US.
  • “… it got out there and I started calling it the Chinese virus. And everybody picked it up.” Like whom besides maybe the right wing media and crackpots?

One Response to Busy week of false statements for Trump

  1. rawgod says:

American Chief Pandemic Health Officer Donald “Joke” Trump commanded all coronaviruses to cease and desist from infecting humans as of Easter Sunday, because Easter Sunday is such a beautiful day. Maybe he knows something the rest of us don’t. The only way a day can be beautiful right now is to hear Trump died hoist on his own petard. To Republicans, that means dying of the coronavirus, or complications therefrom.
