GWX will be dumped at the end of July

Microsoft still intends on stopping the free upgrade to Windows 10 at the end of the day on July 29th. After that day, a single license upgrade for “Home” users will cost about $120 (US).

Although still in the early stages on how they will do it, Microsoft plans to disable the infamous GWX update and later remove it via Windows Update. Unfortunately, at this time, any Windows 10 “bits” downloaded may require user intervention to remove.

Windows 10 is now on 300 million devices, on track for 1 billion in 3 years from the original release date. They define devices as desktop, laptops, smartphones, Xbox game consoles, Surface Hub conference screens and HoloLens augmented reality devices
