How to get Windows 10 v1511

As reported previously, Microsoft has released a major update dubbed “1511” [as in 2015 – November]. This update is really an upgrade to Window 10 as well as Windows 7 & 8.1 users. So whatever time it took you to upgrade from Windows 7 or 8.1, it will be probably at least the same time for Windows 10.

If you have not upgraded from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, the GWX application will download the upgrade for you, replacing the previous upgrade that wasn’t used.

If you have upgraded from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 within the last 31 days [from the time you upgraded], you will not be notified until after 31 days. This gives you the option to roll back to your previous version of Windows. After the 31 days have passed, your computer will automatically download the November update.

If you are at Windows 10 now, if the setting to defer upgrades is turned on, you may not get the update immediately. To make sure this setting is turned off, click on the Start button , then  Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Advanced options, and finally clear the checkbox for Defer upgrades.

Note: You can upgrade at any time or bypass the 31 wait days after the initial upgrade from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 with the 1511 media or by using the Media Creation Tool.
