Android sales smother the competition

The latest numbers for the smartphone market is in and it looks like Apple has lost its mojo.
According to a Gartner report released this month and comparing “Q2” of this year versus the same quarter last year:
Android sales have skyrocketed, increasing 75% to about 178,000 units sold [79% market share versus 64% last year].
Apple increased maybe 10% to 32,000 units sold but the market share dropped from almost 19% to just over 14%.
Windows Phone increased 80% to about 7,400 units sold [market share increased went from 2.6% to 3.3%.
Blackberry OS had the only decrease of the big four, dropping to about 6,200 units sold from almost 8,000 units sold [market share from 5.2% to 2.7%].
Bigger issue with Blackberry is that even with the Q10 coming out a few months ago, it didn’t help the overall sales.
Smartphone sales over the two periods increased 50%, mostly from the Android OS.
Note: While I am not a major fan of these research companies, Gartner tends to be the most credible and even if the sales figures were off, I don’t think many can dispute that Android is doing well and the others aren’t.
