Windows 8.1 released to the public on….

Microsoft announced that Windows 8.1 will be released to the public on October 18th via the Microsoft store.

Also to be released on that day is Windows Server 2012 R2, System Center 2012 R2 server applications and an updated Windows Intune.

There has been no indication if and when Windows 8.1 and the others will be released on TechNet Plus and MSDN subscription services. Usually [with a mid-October public release] they would be released probably at the end of this month. However there has been some talk that Microsoft may tighten the gap between the subscription release and the public release.

Regarding the public release, at this time, Microsoft has said that Windows 8.1 will only be available at the store as a free upgrade to Windows 8 users.
