As a slight bit of “relief” to those who have to deploy Windows 7 [and Server 2008 R2] with service pack 1, Microsoft released on Monday a “roll up” that features 90 system related hot fixes into one package.
Yes. It is not a service pack, but I guess anything helps!
This is more of an “enterprise” update as it has hot fixes included that are related to Windows 7 [and Server 2008 R2] on a domain such as group policy, folder redirection, WebDAV and SMB client. It can, however, be installed on all Windows 7 [and Server 2008 R2] SKUs. [Probably can’t hurt.]
You can find the complete list of hot fixes at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2775511 as well a few things you should know.
The roll up is available from the Windows Update Catalog [ http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx ] and do a search for KB2775511.
At this time, do not expect a service pack 2 for Windows 7 [and Server 2008 R2]. Now if only they could do a roll up for security updates.
Note: You should still check the KB for important information regarding this roll up.
