Cheap Windows 8 upgrade expiring in 10 days

Just as a reminder, there is about ten days left to the Microsoft promotion regarding cheap upgrades from Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 to Windows 8.

For $40 [depending on your country], you can upgrade your system to Windows 8.

In general, if your system already has Windows Vista or Windows 7, you shouldn’t have much of a problem upgrading to Windows 8 [at least in terms of hardware]. If you have Windows XP, the system must be strong enough to handle the new OS. I would suggest a minimum of a dual core processor and 4GB of memory. The stronger the CPU the better.

You can verify your system’s capability for Windows 8 by downloading the Upgrade Assistant at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8 . Note that Microsoft’s [minimum] system requirements would make your system crawl.

You will need a high speed [and stable] Internet connection as you will be downloading Windows 8 to your computer. There is a big surcharge if you want the DVD sent to you.

You may have issues to upgrade a 32-bit OS to a 64-bit OS.

The Canadian link to the $40 upgrade is below. If from another country, replace “en-CA” with your language and country combination. For example, the US is “en-US”.

Promotion ends at the end of this month.
