Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 release dates announced

At Microsoft’s annual Worldwide Partner Conference today in Toronto, Windows Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Financial Officer Tami Reller announced that Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 will be released to manufacturing in the first week of August with general availability [i.e. in stores and online] by the end of October.

For enterprise customers with Software Assurance benefits, they will have full access to Windows 8 bits as early as August as well as MSDN subscriptions. TechNet Plus subscribers will probably be able to their copies around a week later.

A reminder that Microsoft is offering a $40 upgrade price [direct download or $70 with media] for users of Windows XP and after to Windows 8 Professional until the end of January 2013. As well, purchase a computer from the beginning of June through the end January 2013 and you can get Windows 8 Professional for $20 [and you don’t have to upgrade the new computer!].
