Not good times for Research in Motion

Research in Motion [RIM] continues to drop in market share. It finally lost its lead in Canada for smartphones. Of course you know that RIM was forced to change the name of their next OS from BBX to BB10 because BBX is a name used for some [would you believe] Business Basic programming software.

Then they announced that BB10 would only be available late this year. Now I was told that BB10 will only be available on new smartphones as they come out. That means they won’t be ported to any older models. RIM is taking a big risk. If they don’t release the new smartphones by this fall in time for the Christmas season, they will be in big trouble.

BTW, at a recent “Business Innovation Forum”, RIM gave out a single Playbook as a raffle prize. Hmmmm.
