Hard disk shortages, green drives aren’t that green and other drive news

With the flooding problems happening in Thailand, already some are predicting that hard disk shortages [unsure if that includes SSDs] will occur soon.
Meanwhile, a recent report says that while “green” hard disks are good for the environment, the report says that it says maybe $1.20 a year in electricity. But remember that green hard disks are around 15% slower [which in theory could result in the hard disk crashing as it has to work longer than a 7200 rpm hard disk.
Hewlett-Packard seems to be using quite a bit of green hard disks – even in the mid-range computers. Acer/Gateway also has some models using them as well.
Meanwhile, Seagate has announced it will discontinue the manufacture of the green hard disks. I guess they can’t sell them.
